WINTER 2020

 

 

HIGH SCHOOL WINTER TRAINING 

 

What:  Reach High’s High Winter Training program is geared toward the serious athlete who would like to improve their personal fitness and is working toward getting faster on the water in the spring.  Novice (new) rowers who would like to get a jump start on their spring racing season are welcome! Training will be varied and will include time on the erg, circuit training, weights, running, and general cardiovascular fitness. Rowers will be training toward successful competition at the 2000-meter distance and will be expected to compete at the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints on February 1st. Rowers are expected to attend and participate fully in all practices.

 

Who:  Students in 8th through 12th grade

When: Monday, December 2, 2019 to Friday, February 21, 2020

Practices Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, from 4:30-6:00 PM

Where: Baltimore Community Rowing Boathouse, 3301 Waterview Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230

Cost:  $450. Scholarships are available for Baltimore City Public School students; please contact rowreachhigh@gmail.com for details.

Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints:  All rowers participating in winter training will be expected to register and compete in the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints on February 1, 2020. Rowers will be required to register for this race on their own through RegattaCentral by December 31st. Coaches will advise each rower for what category they should register. The registration fee is $25 and will be paid individually by the rower at the time of registration. The fee is not included in the cost of winter training. Rowers will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from erg sprints, and should expect about a 3-hour time commitment on that day.

MIDDLE SCHOOL WINTER CONDITIONING

 

What:  Reach High’s Middle School Winter Conditioning program offers middle school rowers an opportunity to improve their general fitness and refine their rowing technique. Technical instruction is provided on the erg for new and experienced rowers alike. Novice (new) rowers welcome! Winter conditioning will focus on providing a solid introduction to physical fitness, flexibility, and the specifics of the rowing stroke. Practices will include training on the ergs (rowing machines), running, and circuit training.  Rowers are expected to attend and participate fully in all practices.

 

Who:  Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade

When: Wednesday, January 15, 2020 to Saturday, February 22, 2020

Practices Wednesday from 4:30-6:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 AM

Where: Baltimore Community Rowing Boathouse, 3301 Waterview Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230

Cost:  $200. Scholarships are available for Baltimore City Public School students; please contact rowreachhigh@gmail.com for details.
