SPRING 2020

 

 

SPRING 2020 SEASON INFORMATIONAL MEETING

 

New and returning rowers and their families, please join BCR Juniors at our pre-season kick off meeting Tuesday, August 27, at 6:00 PM at the Baltimore Rowing & Water Resource Center, 3301 Waterview Avenue!

 

Information about the fall season, bus transportation, swim test, uniforms, and other details will be discussed. This meeting is mandatory for all rowers who would like to join the High School Racing Team or Middle School Rowing Program this spring.

 

HIGH SCHOOL RACING TEAM 

 

What:  BCR Juniors High School Racing Team offers competitive training and regional racing opportunities for high school athletes. Novice (new) rowers are welcome! Rowers will be training for the 2000 meter head race distance (see race schedule). Rowers are expected to attend and participate fully in all practices and regattas, which will include on water time, training on the ergs (rowing machines), running, and circuit training.  

 

Who:  Students in 9th through 12th grade; some 8th graders by invitation

 

When: Thursday, February 27, 2020 to Friday, May 8, 2020

    Practices Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, from 4:30-6:30 PM

 

Where: Baltimore Rowing & Water Resource Center, 3301 Waterview Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230

Cost:  $700.

Scholarships are available for Baltimore City Public School students; scholarship application available here

Swim Test:  All rowers must complete a swim test in the presence of a certified life guard and submit a Swim Test Verification Form. A swim test is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th, from 4:30-6:00 PM at the Cherry Hill Aquatic Center.  Alternately, a swim test may be completed independently in the presence of a certified life guard and submitted. The Swim Test Verification Form is available for download below. No rower will be allowed on the water without a completed Swim Test Verification Form on file.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ROWING

 

What:  BCR Juniors Middle School Rowing Program offers instruction in the sport of rowing for new and experienced middle school athletes. We focus on providing our middle school rowers with a solid introduction to physical fitness, flexibility, and the specifics of the rowing stroke, while sparking a life-long appreciation of spending time on the water in their community. Novice (new) rowers are welcome! Practices will include on water time, training on the ergs (rowing machines), running, and circuit training.  Middle school rowers may participate in a novice scrimmage at the discretion of the coaches.

 

Who:  Students in 6th through 8th grade

 

When: Wednesday, March 4, 2020 to Friday, May 8, 2020

     Practices Monday/Wednesday/Friday, from 4:30-6:30 PM

 

Where: Baltimore Rowing & Water Resource Center, 3301 Waterview Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230

Cost:  $300.
